Making Decisions: REACH, Don’t Settle! by Jenny Shain

I see a lot of Christians making a big mistake. They “wait” on God so long that their lives pass them by! They wait so long that they die. Don’t let the music & dream die inside of you. Many people expect God to come down & open the door for them. And if He doesn’t, then they let opportunities pass them by. Are you waiting for Jesus to ring your doorbell, pull out a notebook, & write down exactly what He wants you to do? Is it time to face the fact that this isn’t how God works?

There are decisions, opportunities, & possibilities that must be surrendered to God, prayed through, & then acted upon. God doesn’t always give us clear answers. (We are not talking about sin issues here.) There is a phrase we coaches call, “Being at choice.” In many decisions & opportunities, God gives us the freedom to be At Choice. They aren’t about sin, but they are opportunities. Ask, is this something I have the liberty to be “at choice” about? Don’t pass up the opportunity to walk through the door of your vision because God isn’t showing up in front of you in person.

1. ASSESS RISK. Who will be affected if you DO or DO NOT take the opportunity? What could be the positive or negative outcomes of both?

2. SEEK WISE COUNSEL. I see a lot of people whining & blaming God & others for problems they brought into their lives because they did not ask the experts FIRST.

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls,
but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14

Ask at least 3 experts in your area of need before making a decision. Seek the most qualified professionals in your subject that you can possibly find. Also ask people who are trustworthy & know God. But don’t assume just because someone is a pastor, elder, or deacon that they are experts in the area you need counsel in. When Nehemiah built the wall, he no doubt consulted & hired the best architects & masons he could find!

4. DON’T RUSH. Give it time with a deadline.

5. ASK: How does this possibility align within my highest Values, Personal Vision, Mission, Purpose, & Goals?

6. CREATE a 1-5 year plan.

7. HIRE ME as your life coach to help you turn this ship around, clarify your vision, & put your dream on FULL STEAM AHEAD!

Don’t be afraid to REACH, & Don’t SETTLE. You might be in your current situation & thinking, “Well, I’m OK. I’m not dying. It’s alright.” But you secretly have three things going on:

1. You wonder how your  talents could impact the world.

2. You use the “I’m ok where I am, I’m not dying,” excuse to stay stuck where you are because the anxiety & hurdles to achieve your dreams would just be too much.

3. Or you’ve never given yourself the freedom to dream & embrace all that God has for you & the full use of your talents & potential the Creator endowed in you. You unconsciously wonder, “Why would God choose me to be such a blessing or to do something so great?” Because you are His creation & He uses & expects His people to do MIGHTY things that’s why!

Good is the enemy of Great. As my entrepreneur leader friend at “Boxofcrayons” says, “Stop doing good work & start doing GREAT WORK!”

Matthew 25:14-30 The Parable of the Talents
“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “The man with the two talents also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.” ‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'”

Write your songs before the music can’t be heard. Build while the sun is still shining. Embrace while you can still touch. Engage while you can still connect. Carpe Diem, Seize the Day. Let God use you to bring tremendous light into the world!

Now let’s go change the world.
